There is a very good article at this link about the Shroud of Turin. See what you think, and then come back and let's discuss it.

I have read some of the articles concerning the Shroud, and it seems there have been those determined to prove it's false. Proving it's authenticity might increase the faith of some, for most it probably won't.
If we believe, we believe without scientific proof.
But I for one, wouldn't mind this evidence being in our favor.

I know what you mean, John. We believe, because we heard (read) and believed the testimonies of those who were there.
John 17:20,21 "I do not ask on behalf of these alone, but for those also who believe in Me through their word; that they may all be one; even as You, Father, are in Me and I in You, that they also may be in Us, so that the world may believe that You sent Me."
1 John 1:1-3 "What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life— and the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us— what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ."
2 Peter 2:16-18 "For we did not follow cleverly devised tales when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For when He received honor and glory from God the Father, such an utterance as this was made to Him by the Majestic Glory, 'This is My beloved Son with whom I am well-pleased' — and we ourselves heard this utterance made from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain."
I also wouldn't mind the shroud of turin being authentic. I know the Resurrection happened; I know Jesus was raised from the dead. In this era of microscopic evidence, it would be very cool to see tiny fibrous evidence left behind by God for us to enjoy.
Have you ever heard of [or listened to} Arthur C. Clarke? His take on these thing was simply amazing!
...
Didn't he write 2001 a Space Odyssey, 2010, and 2030? I thought he was an atheist or an evolutionist? What did he say?
That is him.
When asked about the shroud, he would not say it cannot be the image of Christ.
He simply said, "what if it is?"
The fact that this man who had so often belittled God, and felt so important within his own mind, had to stop and think for one moment...what if?
He would later state that [thanks to the Chinese records or "star charts"] that is was entirely possible that astronomers had found the remnants to the star of Bethlehem, who [is believed] went supernova some 2,000 years ago.
To this discovery he said the same, what if this light we are now seeing is the light from the star that heralded to the earth a new age so long ago.

Once on an Oprah Winfrey show as everyone was involved in a big discussion on religion or new age beliefs, someone asked, "What about Jesus Christ?" To which Oprah coldly responded, "What about him?" Her tone and intent were obviously dismissive. Jesus was not part of her belief system. She had thrust Him out.
I hope Arthur C. Clarke's tone and meaning were honest and more hopeful than Oprah's. There is that point when people look at Jesus' life and claims and say, "Wow, what if?" That's what I did when I was 14. Then I called out to Him and He answered me! :)
Is Clarke still alive? Let's pray for him.
He died March 19, 2008.
I am convinced He, as many atheist, found himself facing death without the assurance there was no God, no afterlife, and no hope.
In the last ten years or so of his life he was more entertaining to the ideas that he had so often scoffed at earlier.
I heard little of his last few years, his biography speaks little of the tones of change I saw in his lectures.
I can only hope.
As for Oprah, God would not meet her conditions, so she thinks she is better off without Him.
There are many like her, God does not give them this warm fuzzy feeling all over so they do not need Him. The problem is a fellowship with God is a mutual relationship, God supplies all we need, but we must accept in faith what is offered, humility is required, and that is what Oprah [and others] lack.
I pray for them all!
